Outside of the surgery I am the Lewisham Macmillan GP whose role is to improve palliative care offered across primary care.

Dr. Ruth Williams has a longstanding interest in Musculoskeletal (MSK) medicine and has a Diploma in Primary Care Rheumatology from the University of Bath. She is an active member and representative of the National Primary Care Rheumatology Society and is presently involved in research into Osteoarthritis with the University of Keele. Last year Dr Williams worked as Lewisham Primary Care Trusts (PCT) MSK lead in the development of a MSK community assessment and treatment service based at University Hospital Lewisham. She is a professional member of the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS) and is interested in the development of patient self-care resources and decision tools. She is involved in Disability Rights and a member of the Royal Association for Disability Rights (RADAR)
Dr Williams is also Lewisham PCT's GP Sexual health lead based in the department of Public Health. She is actively involved in the National Chlamydia screening programme and in helping to improve access to HIV screening in Lewisham. She is the GP representative on the Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham TOP Pan-Providers committee aimed at improving the quality of our local services and previously worked at the 'Working womens sexual health project' in Streatham. She works alongside family planning colleagues teaching sexual health to local school children, teachers and parents in the locality.
Dr Williams is a keen educator and has taught a wide range of learners from school children to mature doctors, she has lectured for Kings, Guys and St Thomas Medical School on Rheumatic Disease in the Community. She has recently completed her training to be a GP registrar trainer. She is the practice representative for Practice based commissioning (PBC) locally and a representative on the Lewisham GP PBC federation.
